Ơn – Art Print by Bảo Quyên
Ơn – gratitude · kindness received · remembrance – is a Vietnamese word that describes the gratitude we feel for the care, kindness, or support we have received from others.
It is more than simply saying thank you. Ơn carries the idea of remembering what someone has done for us and recognising the care behind it.
For this illustration, I portrayed a woman caring for a kumquat tree. She waters and nurtures it, and in return, the tree grows healthy and bears fruit. For me, this became a metaphor for ơn – kindness received, remembered, and eventually given back in another form.
The kumquat tree is also closely associated with Tết and ideas of abundance, prosperity, and good fortune, making it a fitting symbol for a cycle of care and gratitude.
