Nhẫn – Art Print by Bảo Quyên
Nhẫn is a Vietnamese word that describes patience, endurance, and the quiet strength to keep going without giving up.
For this illustration, I wanted to portray nhẫn through the patience of craft.
I depicted a man who perfects his skill through persistence — making hundreds and thousands of traditional Vietnamese folk masks, repeating the same careful movements until practice slowly becomes mastery.
These colourful masks are part of Vietnam’s traditional folk culture and have been used in festivals, rituals, and performances. Their exaggerated expressions and bold colours often represent familiar characters, emotions, and symbolic roles.
For me, that repetitive process is a beautiful expression of nhẫn: patience built through practice, and skill shaped by continuing even when mastery takes time.
