Thương – Art Print by Bảo Quyên
Thương is a Vietnamese word that describes a kind of love expressed through care.
It can be romantic, but it can also exist between family, friends, or even toward someone vulnerable who simply needs kindness. Compared with yêu, thương often carries a softer feeling — affection mixed with concern, empathy, and the desire to protect.
For this illustration, I wanted to show that feeling through a small chain of care.
A man is shielding his girlfriend from the rain, while she is shielding an abandoned kitten beneath her.
One person cares for another, who then passes that care on to someone more vulnerable.
For me, that is thương — love that does not only stay in words, but becomes something we do.
