Lạc Long Quân & Âu Cơ Bookmark – Vietnamese Mythology Illustration by Bao Quyen
This bookmark is an original illustration by Bao Quyen, printed on sturdy 300g paper and finished with a colourful string. Measuring 5 × 20 cm, it is designed to be both practical and meaningful. Please note that the colour of the string is random, making each bookmark unique.
The illustration is inspired by one of the most important legends in Vietnamese history—the story of Lạc Long Quân and Âu Cơ, the mythical ancestors of the Vietnamese people.
According to ancient legend, Lạc Long Quân, a powerful dragon king of the sea, fell in love with Âu Cơ, a fairy princess from the mountains. Together they had one hundred children, born from a golden sac of eggs. These children became the ancestors of the Vietnamese people, known as the Bách Việt.
Recognizing that their true homes lay in different realms, Lạc Long Quân and Âu Cơ chose to part peacefully. Fifty children followed their father to the sea, while the other fifty followed their mother to the mountains. Before separating, they promised unity, mutual support, and harmony among their descendants.
This legend symbolizes origin, unity, balance, and the connection between sea and land—values deeply rooted in Vietnamese culture. The bookmark serves as a quiet reminder of shared roots, belonging, and cultural identity.
Perfect for readers, collectors, and lovers of Vietnamese folklore, mythology, and symbolic illustration, this bookmark is both a functional accessory and a cultural keepsake.
